Sir:-
With reference to correspondence which passed in Au-
gust last between your Department and the Colonial Office
respecting the disposal of munitions of war seized at Song-
kong on board the Steamship "Tung Chau", I am directed by
the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit to you, for the in-
formation of the Army Council, a copy of correspondence
which has since passed with the Colonial Office with regard
to an application made by the Russian Covernment for the
restitution of these goods.
It will be seen that the Governor of Hongkong will be
instructed to hand over the ammunition in question to the
Russian officer who may be authorized to receive it; and
I am to add that the Russian Ambassador at this Court has
been informed accordingly, and has been asked to furnish
Le Secretary
to the Army Council.
